Canterbury Ladies enjoyed a perfect weekend which enhanced their National Premier Division title prospects.
The city club won 4-0 at Clifton on Saturday, while second-placed Leicester suffered a 1-0 defeat to Reading the following day.
With three league games remaining, Canterbury are four points ahead of Reading. Defending champions Leicester are now third, behind the Berkshire side on goal difference, although they do have a game in hand on the top two.
Fifth-placed Bowdon Hightown are seven points behind Canterbury, meaning the city club can seal a top-four place and a play-off spot with victory at the University of Birmingham on Saturday.
At Clifton, Mel Clewlow (pictured) opened the scoring inside a minute and Sarah Kerly scored the second three minutes later.
Jade Mayne fired the third to all but seal the points after 13 minutes while Eliza Brett capped the convincing display with the fourth seven minutes from time.
Canterbury’s men secured a vital win over Hampstead & Westminster on Sunday to keep their Premier Division play-off chances alive.
The city club had lost four consecutive matches and six of seven games before the trip to the capital but a seventh-minute penalty corner strike from Liam Foster gave them a lead which Huw Stevens doubled a minute before the break.
Foster’s second on 51 minutes sealed the points to keep Canterbury third, although their top-four prospects weren’t helped by Subiton’s shock win over leaders Beeston.
With three games remaining, the city club are a point behind second-placed Reading, level on points with fourth-placed Cannock.
