Canterbury men's 1sts secured themselves a Premier Division lifeline in dramatic fashion on Sunday by defeating relegation rivals Brooklands 2-1 with the winning goal coming in the last minute of the final league match.

The victory saw the City side - sitting bottom of the table at the start of play - leapfrog Brooklands and condemn their rivals to the drop, while giving Canterbury the chance to avoid relegation through the play-offs.

The crucial goal was scored by Michael Farrer (pictured) from a penalty corner. Earlier, Tom Butt's eighth-minute opening goal had been cancelled out by Brooklands' David Seddon in the 43rd minute.

The three points enabled Canterbury to finish in 13 points from 18 games, one point above Brooklands.
