Canterbury ladies remain top of the Women’s Premier Division after a hit and miss weekend.
On Saturday they enjoyed a 3-0 home win over Clifton.
Lucy Hyams’ (pictured) first half strike got them off the mark and further goals were scored by Sarah Kerly and Jen Wilson.
They were unable to build on that win and at Reading the following day they came unstuck.
Rebecca Halle’s goal, just before the hour, settled the match in Reading’s favour as Canterbury tasted defeat for the third time this season in the league.
The league leaders are just two points above second placed Leicester now and have played a game more.
Canterbury Men bounced back from a 5-3 defeat against Reading by holding league leaders East Grinstead to a 3-3 draw thanks to a last minute goal.
Michael Farrer, Mickel Pierre and Tom Butt scored for Canterbury on Saturday but the basement side were then soundly beaten by Reading in the EHL Men’s Premier Division.
On Sunday Canterbury were trailing 3-2, having already twice levelled the scores, before Liam Foster struck a penalty corner to complete a shock result.
Canterbury found themselves 1-0 down against the unbeaten leaders with just eight minutes gone but five minutes later Natthew Botha restored parity with his own penalty corner strike.
Dave De Prez, who had hit East Grinstead’s opener, put them ahead once more only for Liam Foster to make it 2-2 early in the second half.
Mats Grambusch’s goal looked to have finally seen Canterbury off but in the last minute Foster was on hand to earn his side a share of the spoils.
