Canterbury men secure return to England Hockey Premier Division after superb play-off victory

Canterbury's men returned to the England Hockey Premier Division after a two-year exodus in style after a fine performance in the Promotion play-offs.

Kwan Browne's side thrashed Deeside Ramblers 9-0 in their opening game on Saturday, despite having to wait 21 minutes for the opening goal..

Browne (pictured right) scored twice, Matt Harper and Mickel Pierre also added two apiece with Ben Hare, Matthew Tang Nian and Michael Farrar sealing the rout.

Canterbury came back from 2-1 down to win their second game 4-3 against Team Bath Buccaneers the following day.

Farrar opened the scoring, and despite Bath going ahead after the break, Aaron Hudson scored twice in two minutes to put the city club ahead.

Bath drew level late-on but Pierre netted int he dying seconds to seal a dramatic win.

Promotion was assured on Monday when Canterbury overcame Brooklands Manchester University 4-1, with Pierre, Browne, Farrar and Harper on target.
