Canterbury Rugby Club coach Danny Vaughan wants his side to "set the record straight" when they entertain already-relegated National 2 South whipping boys Newbury Blues on Saturday.

The Blues have only won one game this season and that came against the city club in a 24-19 victory in February.

Vaughan (pictured) said: "Everyone is saying we should win but we have to focus on the game and concentrate, put in the graft, work hard and earn it.

"Losing to them was the lowest point of the season and we have a point to prove without a doubt."

Canterbury raised their own hopes of beating the drop with last weekend's win at Taunton, but nearest rivals Shelford and Westcombe Park also picked up victories and Vaughan said: "If we had not won that game, then it would have been difficult for us to stay up.

"We are just going to rely on ourselves and if we can play the way we can, then we should get out of it."

Nick Dangerfield is Canterbury’s only doubt with a shoulder injury, with Nicky Woodbridge set to replace him at nine.
