Community radio station CSR picked up a silver award at Tuesday night’s Student Radio Awards in London.

The station, run by and for students at Canterbury Christ Church University and Kent University, finished runners-up in the best outside broadcast category for their live coverage of this year’s Lounge On The Farm music festival.

The team presented shows from a converted pig sty for three days, while also interviewing many of the headline acts backstage.

Media manager Jamie Stephens admits just being nominated for the final shortlist of six was a huge achievement.

He said: “The logistics of both broadcasting from a farm and keeping three days of live broadcast fresh, professional and entertaining are huge, and I know a number of our radio competitors were very impressed with what CSR achieved, despite all staff being unpaid and relatively inexperienced volunteers.

“Everyone involved should be extremely proud.”

The category was won by Westminster University station Smoke Radio, with Nottingham University station URN picking up the bronze award.

The awards ceremony, held at the IndigO2, was presented by BBC Radio 1 DJs Scott Mills, Fearne Cotton and Greg James.
