Hockey player Lucy Hyams has been selected for a Youth Sports Trust national talent camp next month.

The 15-year-old Kent College pupil, who plays for Canterbury Ladies, is one of three Kent teenagers included among a total of 130 of the country’s top sporting youngsters who will gather at Loughborough University from January 6-9.

Lucy, who lives in Tankerton, spent two days at Lilleshall for national trials this week, and has already represented England under-16s. She also skippered Saxon Tigers to victory in the Futures Cup last month and pictured in action for the Saxons (yellow).

She joins netball player Francesca Desmond (Sevenoaks) and rower Timothy Grant (Otford) from the county for the stay.

The camp, which involves youngsters from eight different sports, includes cross-sport training sessions and competitions, with motivational workshops presented by past and present Olympic and Paralympic medallists.

Triple Olympic rowing silver medallist Katherine Grainger said: "One of the key aims is to offer young people a window into the world of performance sport, the expectations and demands and the chance to reflect on their own talent and ability."

Launched two years ago, the camp is funded trough the Government’s PE and
Sport Strategy for Young People.
