A hat-trick of tries from skipper Peter Kelly and the accurate boot of fly-half Scott Browne brought Canterbury their second National 2 South win of the season, a 35-7 success at Lydney.
However, it wasn’t a pretty victory.Too many unforced errors and too much whistle prevented Saturday's match from settling into any kind of rhythm but the city side were always the more effective.
Browne’s third penalty, seven minutes from time, stretched their lead to 23-7 but it still left Canterbury needing two more tries to earn a bonus point.
It was a tall order but Lydney helped them out by collecting two yellow cards and the bonus point came from two Kelly touchdowns.
Earlier tries from Kelly and Mike Melford helped the city side to a 17-0 half-time lead but Lydney built momentum after the break and got on the scoresheet with a converted try.
After that score, though, they didn't offer much attacking threat.
Browne’s second penalty goal kept them at a safe distance until Canterbury completed the job.
