Police closed the Thanet Way near St Nicholas-at-Wade on Tuesday morning after a car went up in flames.

The driver of the Land Rover Freelander pulled over on the Thanet bound carriageway at about 7.30am after smelling smoke in the vehicle.

He got out and discovered a fire in the engine bay which quickly engulfed the car in flames.

Fire fighters from Herne Bay and Margate attended but could not prevent the car from being destroyed.

The road was closed while they tried to tackle the fire but re-opened about 30 minutes later.

Nobody was injured.
