Cash boost for cathedrals

Kent's cathedrals are to benefit from a cash handout totalling nearly £350,000.

English Heritage has announced it is offering £230,000 to Canterbury Cathedral, for the repair of the Howley library roof, as part of its Cathedrals Grants Scheme.

Rochester Cathedral will gain £123,000 for reparis to the Treasury roof.

Professor Sir Barry Cunliffe, interim chairman of English Heritage, said: "Cathedrals are some of our country's most imposing and beautiful buildings.

"The excellent craftsmanship demonstrated in these places of worship is something which we must strive to rpeserve for generations to come."
