THE £50million Save Canterbury Cathedral campaign is gathering momentum as it enters its second month.
Following the launch more than £300,000 has been given by individuals and parishes both here and overseas.
This means that with £5million that had already been raised before the official launch the running total now stands at just over £5.3million.
The campaign will finance an extensive conservation and development programme, saving the historic building from further decay and damage through old-age and pollution.
David Innes, chief executive of the campaign, said: "I am hugely encouraged and very excited. The response has shown us that Canterbury Cathedral really is a place that is known all over the world."
