Canterbury Cathedral has been lit purple tonight to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The site's corona tower was illuminated at 8pm, along with other major UK landmarks including Wembley Stadium and the London Eye.
The floodlighting is in honour of Holocaust Memorial Day, which remembers the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The international day of remembrance falls each year on January 27, which marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau; the largest Nazi death camp.
Due to the pandemic, the day is being observed differently this year with virtual events being staged across the county.
At home, people have also honoured the occasion by lighting candles and placing them in their windows.
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 billboards across the UK have been lit up in honour of the event, including the famous screens in Leicester Square.
This Holocaust Memorial Day, the theme is 'be the light in the darkness'.
It hopes to encourage everyone to reflect on the depths humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities resisted the darkness to ‘be the light’ before, during and after genocides.
