A CONFERENCE to celebrate 40 years' of archaeological discoveries in Kent is being held at Canterbury Christ Church University College on Saturday from 2pm-5.30pm.

It will be opened by Kent Tucker, chairman of Kent County Council, and has been organised by the Council for Kentish Archaeology. It is open to the public

The first speaker will be Victor Smith from Thames Defence Heritage who will talk about the discovery of the Roman religious town of Springhead. He will be followed by Brian Philp, of Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, who will speak about excavating the Roman forts at Dover and Reculver.

During the second part of the conference presentations will take place, with finds and plans on show. They will be led by Bromley and West Kent Archaeological Group, Dover Archaeological Group, Lower Medway Archaeological Research Group, Orpington and district Archaeological Society, Springhead Excavation Group and Upchurch Archaeological Research Group.
