The doors to Canterbury Cathedral will be thrown open to the public on Tuesday evening, inviting everyone to take a look behind the scenes.

The annual open evening gives people a chance to meet those who help with the day to day running of the historic building and see areas not normally accessible to the public.

Highlights this year include Jason Dodd’s photographic display A Day in the Life of Canterbury Cathedral, featuring some of the 900 employees and volunteers at work.

Jason will be launching a book of some of the images during the evening, with proceeds going to the £50million Save Canterbury Cathedral Appeal.

Visitors will also get a change to climb the Bell Ringing Tower, peer from the organ loft and access some of the chapels. Timed tickets are needed for each of these and visitors are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

The evening starts at 5.30pm with choral evensong and displays begin at 6.15pm.

A short concert from the Cathdral choristers begins at 8.40pm, before the evening ends at 9pm with compline.

Entry is free, as are all tours on offer.
