A charity is calling on dog lovers to give a home to sighthounds after it saw a large influx of the breed at its rehoming centre.

Dogs Trust Canterbury, in Chestfield, is currently home to eight greyhounds and lurchers who have been overlooked by visitors.

Rehoming centre manager Adam Levy said: “They are a breed which are a constantly being overlooked because of a common misconception that they need lots of exercise.

“This however is not the case - they are hugely sociable animals which, above all else, enjoy curling up on the sofa after a short walk.”

Centre bosses have launched an appeal to find a home for the sighthounds, with staff creating a collection of photos using captions in a bid to banish misconceptions about the breed.

Mr Levy added: “We have seen an unusual influx of greyhounds and lurchers over the past few months and hope that local dog lovers will find room in their hearts and homes for these big-hearted hounds.

“People can sometimes be put off by their size but sighthounds are very gentle and have so much love to give.”
