More redundancies are on the way at Kent County Cricket Club.
Chief executive Jamie Clifford was unable to confirm how many jobs could be lost or when the results of a consultation process with affected staff would be complete.
The rumours of redundancies were brought to light following posts on the unofficial supporters’ forum.
Mr Clifford said: “It’s a hugely difficult position for us to be in really.
“We’re a public organisation and from time to time information does leak out from the club.
“If we were a private company, we would be able to run a redundancy process quietly and confidentially with the employees affected.
“There are currently employees whose jobs are at risk. That’s the very start of a process which speaks to those involved about ways in which we can deal with the possibility of redundancy.
“I’m trying to be protective of those staff as much as possible, as we don’t really want to see this process aired out in public. All we can say is that there’s a process under way and it will run its course and we can’t put a time frame or a deadline on that.
“On a human level, ignoring my job or who I work for, I don’t want to comment on individuals, as it’s not fair at all.”
Posts on the We Are Kent forum under the topic “The Redundancy Issue” (pictured above) put the number of staff believed to be at risk of redundancy at four, including employees in the operations, catering and coaching departments.
But Mr Clifford would not confirm the exact number of employees or their relevant departments. The club also went through a redundancy process in January 2009, when eight staff lost their jobs.
Work to redevelop the St Lawrence Ground will continue, as funds have been specifically set aside for the project.
