Pupils told to isolate after teenager at Canterbury Academy catches Covid-19

Children from a secondary school are isolating after a teenager tested positive for Covid-19.

Leaders at The Canterbury Academy in Knight Avenue, Canterbury , have written to parents and carers advising them that a case has been confirmed among sixth formers and some have been told to stay at home.

It is believed to be the first confirmed case at a Canterbury school .

The letter says: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a single case of Covid-19 within our sixth form bubble at the school and to send you all this letter.

"We know that you my find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are communicating and working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advise on how to support your child.

"Please be assured that for most people coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"A small number of people who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for Covid-19 have today received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days as a precaution.

"The school remains open as normal and if you have not been contacted separately, your child should continue to attend as normal, if they remain well."

The letter then goes on to describe what to do if a child develops coronavirus symptoms.
