ENVIRONMENTALISTS are challenging Canterbury city council to introduce new policies to combat climate change.

The group PACE is accusing the authority of 'doing nothing’ to tackle the problem.

It will outline it concerns at an Action on Climate Change public meeting in Canterbury next month at which a number of prominent speakers are due to talk.

They include South East Kent Green Party MEP Caroline Lucas and Ashton Hayes from Woking, who is working to create the first carbon neutral village in Britain.

Also due to talk is Donnachadh McCarthy who writes a weekly column for the Independent and is the author of Saving the Planet Without Costing the Earth.

Organisers say there is a open invitation to the public but hope leading council officers, councillors and the business community will attend.

The event is at the United Reformed Church hall in Watling Street at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 8.
