A conman stole £750 from a pensioner after claiming he was investigating a water leak at his home.
The crook knocked at the flat of the 84-year-old man in Forrester Close, Canterbury, shortly after 3pm on Friday, claiming he needed to look at the water supply.
But as the OAP cleared the cupboard under the sink, the thief struck, stealing the cash from two wallets.
Investigating officer PC Pete Frampton said: “While the victim was emptying the cupboard under the kitchen sink so he could take a look the offender left the room for several minutes.
“When he came back he said he needed to go upstairs to check the leak, but he never returned.”
The offender is described as aged between 25 and 30, 5ft 10ins tall and of a large build.
He had olive skin and black, gelled hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket and appeared smartly-dressed.
PC Frampton warned: “Always check the identity of anyone knocking at your door. If you are not sure phone the company they are representing and confirm they are legitimate. Genuine callers won’t mind.”
