Canterbury College is waiting to hear whether it will receive the £50million from the Learning Skills Council it needs for the third phase of its redevelopment.
Funding for higher education colleges was thrown into chaos last week when it emerged there were widespread delays for funding for building projects, a situation which prompted the resignation of the LSC’s chief executive Mark Haysom.
Canterbury College has finished the first two stages of its redevelopment and is hoping the LSC will come through with the funding for the third “in the near future”.
“The impressive completed campus buildings have modern industry standard facilities and first class student accommodation,” principal Alison Clarke said.
“However, one third of our estate’s accommodation remains dated and inadequate. The completion of the third phase will make the Canterbury College redevelopment one of the largest projects of its kind in the further education sector in the country.
“As is the case with other further education college capital projects across the country, the project is awaiting a positive decision from the LSC in the near future which hopefully will enable it to proceed.”
