Watch action from the
colourful parade
by Katie Alston
A sparkling procession of fairy wings,
bells and glitter made its way through Canterbury High Street on
Saturday.
The event, part of a pagan Goddess
Festival, marched to the beat of drums from the Westgate Hall to
Whitefriars.
Pointy ears and green painted faces
gave the parade a magical feel, with both belly dancers and morris
dancers adding to the entertainment.
After gathering at the end of the High
Street for more music and dancing, the group made its way back to
Westgate Hall, where 60 stalls of arts, crafts and pagan
accessories were laid out.
An afternoon of performances on stage
followed, with hundreds taking part in the celebrations.
Organiser Matthew Callow, 19, from The Spires, Canterbury,
said: "The event is about celebrating paganism and dispelling the
myths that surround it.
"Everyone is in such good spirits and
having a brilliant time. We welcome anyone to come and join the
event.
"This is the second pagan festival I
have organised, with the first being the fairy parade, but this
event is even more popular and hopefully we can attract even bigger
crowds next time. It is a shame that a few people made the crucifix
sign as we paraded through – but it is them I feel sorry for."
