He faces years of neuro-rehabilitation but nothing was going to stop Will Roberts tucking into his 18th birthday cake.

Eight weeks ago the former Canterbury High School student was left in a coma when he was hit by a car.

He suffered serious head injuries in the accident in Dover and is still recovering in a London hospital.

But his birthday saw him joined by mum Michelle, her husband John, and his brothers and sisters to celebrate his 18th.

Will, of Querns Road, Canterbury, remembers the accident but he cannot recall some things he says hour to hour and faces years of neuro-rehabilitation.

He has already started occupational and speech therapy.

A third operation to replace part of his skull last month was successful.

Michelle said: "It was a lovely day and he loved his presents.

"He’d asked for a little angel cake and a new Man Utd kit for his 18th birthday.

"He remembers who we all are and the day of the incident but sometimes doesn’t know what he’s just said."
