City councillors have voiced their opposition a proposed traffic scheme for the St Dunstan’s area of Canterbury.

Members of the Canterbury area member panel (CAMP) met on Wednesday night to discuss the plan which involves making the end of St Dunstan’s towards the Westgate Towers a one-way street and routing vehicles coming into Canterbury round Station Road West and North Lane.

The aim of the scheme is to protect the towers and reduce traffic levels in St Dunstan’s.

But CAMP chairman Cllr Ida Linfield said: "We unanimously objected to this scheme in its current form. It just hasn’t been properly thought through."

Residents and business people also spoke at the meeting with the majority opposing the plan.

Public consultation runs until July 11.
