The young Canterbury couple who feared they may have contracted swine flu after returning ill from holiday in Mexico have been given the all clear.
The pair, aged 22 and 18, developed flu like symptoms including bad headaches and sickness after spending two weeks in the popular holiday resort of Cancun.
But they were unaware of the swine flu scare until after they had arrived back in the city and made contact with family and friends.
After reporting their symptoms to their GP, they were advised to stay at their homes, effectively in quarantine while a community nurse visited them to take samples for analysis.
The couple, who are boyfriend and girlfriend and live apart, did not want to be named but the 18-year-old shop worker told the Gazette last week that it had been a worrying time for them.
She described how the nurse had worn a mask and gloves while visiting and they had been prescribed Tamiflu anti-viral medicine.
But the swine flu tests have now come back negative and the couple told they can go back to work as soon as they feel well enough.
