A major commuter route between Canterbury and Ashford is closed after a lorry is thought to have ploughed into an electricity pole.

The A28 has been shut off following the accident between the junction with Hatch Lane and where the road leads into the A252.

Highways officials have reported long delays in both directions.

Police were called shortly before 8am this morning.

Officers are currently at the scene and there are no reports of any serious injuries.

UK Power Networks has been informed.
