Crowds came out in their droves to support this year’s Whitstable Regatta at the weekend.
Tankerton Slopes was a hive of activity as families descended to enjoy events on dry land, out at sea and in the air.
More than 90 stalls were joined by the traditional fun fair and amusements, while other highlights included lively re-enactments of Viking battles, a dog show, two flypasts by Spitfires on Sunday afternoon and an entertaining display of jousting on mobility scooters from the much-loved Red Wheelies.
The event, run by the Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions, was supported by volunteer groups right across the south east. Lord Mayor, Cllr Ian Thomas, officially opened the regatta on Saturday morning and took time to meet stall holders right along the slopes.
Lions president Mike Shaw was thrilled with the turnout.
He said: “I thought the weekend went absolutely fantastically and that’s due to the fantastic support we receive from the local community, who turn up in their numbers.
“It was everything that we had planned for during the year and new ideas came off and worked really well. We’ve received lots of positive feedback and the planning for next year has already started.”
Thanet-based Viking Fireworks provided another spectacular display on the Saturday night and the entertainment continued into the evening as the fairground rides got into full swing.
