Bank Holiday weekend sunshine ensured this year’s Herne Bay Festival was rounded off in perfect style.
Events carried on all through last week and finished on Sunday with among others, Herne Bay’s Got Talent. BBC Radio Kent’s Pat Marsh acted as master of ceremonies at the Central Bandstand, as aspiring stars took their chance to shine. The judges were slightly less ruthless than Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan and performers in the junior and adult sections entertained the crowds in a variety of categories, including dance, variety, vocals and anything goes.
Day trippers and locals lapped up the entertainment along Central Parade on Saturday. Live music played throughout the afternoon at Rock Around The Clocktower, with performances from among others Richard J. Lewis (pictured right). Chas, without sidekick Dave, who is currently taking time off following the death of his wife Sue Peacock, was the evening’s headline act with a little help from stand-in guitarist Steve.
As ever, the quirky sat alongside the more conventional on this year’s festival programme. An unusual attempt to create a new olympic sport took place along the seafront on Saturday afternoon. But custard pie throwing left many old and young with mucky faces, rather than gold medals round their necks.
