A terrified dad says he was grabbed by the hair and punched in the face by a stranger during a road rage attack on his daily commute.

Glenn Howe, 35, also says his driver’s side door was also smashed up during the sustained assault in a residential Canterbury street.

The violence erupted when Mr Howe’s Vauxhall and the man’s convertible Audi could not pass each other, with neither driver attempting to give way.

“He came up to the window, effing and blinding at me, then he grabbed me by the hair and tried to punch me,” Mr Howe says.

“Luckily my window was only a quarter-way down so he couldn’t get a full punch through, and I just got a glancing blow to the cheek.

“In the moment it felt like it wasn’t going to stop, and I thought the window was going to smash - I felt shaken and scared.

“I just feel lucky that my wife and one-year-old child were not in the car at the time - that would have made everything much more scary.”

CCTV footage seen by KentOnline shows Mr Howe’s red Zafira coming to a stop close to a black car parked on the opposite side of Zealand Road.

Moments later, a convertible Audi passes the stationary vehicle from the opposite direction but is seemingly blocked by Mr Howe, who remained inside his vehicle.

Following a brief standoff a tall man wearing a white top and black trousers exits the Audi, approaches Mr Howe’s window, leans over and gesticulates.

He appears to then direct about three or more blows towards Mr Howe’s head area and grapples for a number of seconds.

As witnesses looked on, a woman could be seen trying to diffuse the situation, which unfolded at about 1.30pm on Thursday.

Mr Howe, a father-of-one from Canterbury, says he did not sustain serious injuries but believes his car suffered damage worth about two thousand pounds.

“The door is all bent and broken, and doesn’t lock anymore,” he says.

“I’m looking at a couple-grand’s worth of repairs - and that’s money I don’t have.”

A police spokesperson said officers are investigating the alleged assault.

“Kent Police is investigating an assault and criminal damage caused to a vehicle in Canterbury,” they said.

“It was reported that at around 1.25pm on Thursday, November 2, the driver of a car stopped at the junction of Zealand Road was assaulted by the driver of another vehicle.

“The offender also reportedly kicked and punched the victim’s car, causing damage.
