Gert De Kock and Trevor Rogers both scored two tries each as Canterbury came from from behind to win 31-24 at Henley in National League 2 South on Saturday.
Injury problems and the departure of fly-half Phil Gibson to Australia, forced a reshuffle and a change of tactics by head coach Danny Vaughan with De Kock (pictured), switching to fly-half, and teenager Will Alkin making a promising debut at full-back.
Hooker Rogers enjoyed his return to the side after injury, as Canterbury 11 points down after 15 minutes, but recovered to lead 21-18 by half-time.
Stand in skipper Rob Keir scored Canterbury’s fifth try, with Ben Thomas adding three conversions in an enterprising display by the City club, who registered their fifth away win of the season.
The game was an entertaining contest with a total of seven tries, with both sides picking up a bonus point.
