A lorry transporting a tank struck a bridge causing road and rail delays on a main route.
Network Rail engineers have been called to the scene of the collision on the A28 in Wincheap, Canterbury.
The incident was impacting trains between Faversham and Dover, which were unable to run, while assessments on any potential damage to the bridge were carried out.
There were also traffic delays in the city centre, impacting traffic through Wincheap and on the ring road.
“A lorry has collided with a bridge in the Canterbury East area,” rail operator Southeastern posted on X shortly before 11am.
“Trains between Faversham and Dover are currently unable to run.
“Network Rail is aware and is en route to Canterbury.”
In a further update, Southeastern said Network Rail is investigating potential damage to the bridge and railway infrastructure.
“Once the investigation is complete we will have further updates,” it added.
But in an update shortly after 12.30pm, Southeastern posted trains between Faversham and Dover via Canterbury East are returning to running on time.
