A heartbroken mum has pleaded for the return of treasured sunglasses which belonged to her late daughter.

Helen Rabie kept the Oakley glasses in the glove box of her blue Ford Fiesta as a keepsake to 32-year-old Louise, who died from cancer in 2000.

But two days after the 16 anniversary of her death, they were stolen as Mrs Rabie walked her dogs in Broad Oak, near Canterbury.

She returned to the car to find CDs scattered across the back seat and noticed the glove box was open.

“My first thought was Louise’s glasses,” Mrs Rabie said.

“When I realised they had been taken I just felt sick. I had this feeling of absolute anger.

“I’ve kept them in my car ever since Louise died.

“They mean so much to me because I know where she was when she wore them and what she was doing.

“She was amazing, just beautiful, inside and out, and she never knew it.”

Mrs Rabie’s car was parked at the top of Mayton Lane between 3.30pm and 4.15pm on Tuesday, April 18.

The police were called and a forensics investigator visited to search for fingerprints and DNA.

Mrs Rabie says the glasses were kept in a silver metal case and one of few treasured keepsakes she has from Louise, who was passionate about surfing and motorsport.

“I don’t care how I get them or where from, I just want the sunglasses back,” she said.

“If someone wants to leave them at the Golden Lion pub I can pick them up from there.

“I just hope someone sees this and understands what they mean to me and it pricks their conscience.”
