Discoboy Lee Marshall is hoping to break into the charts with his song Monkey Move.
The 31-year-old internet showman from Herne Bay has filmed a video of himself dancing in front of an entourage of costumed monkeys in a bid to gain a taste of stardom.
Videos of himself cavorting in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury and impromptu raves staged in supermarkets and train stations wearing underpants and a woolly hat have already gone viral.
Now he wants to break into the top 40 by placing his Monkey Move song for sale on iTunes.
Lee said: “It’s not the be all and end all, but it would be good to get into the charts. The Monkey Move is something that my friend and I came up with.
“Everyone loves monkeys, I love monkeys; people used to say that I was a monkey when I was a kid as I was always climbing trees.
“It’s a bit of fun at the end of the day. If you don’t try these things you’ll never know. It’s a project, it’s on my tick list and you’ll never know where it can go.”
The video was filmed in a tunnel in central London and features friends playing the dancing monkeys behind him.
Lee says that if it sells enough, he will donate the proceeds to charity or fundraising causes.
“Obviously I’ve got the Facebook fanpage and if 5,000 people bought it, it would go in the charts, which would be crazy for a charity single – and that’s the main thing,” he said.
“There’s lots of people out there fundraising and it would be nice just to be able to give them the money.”
But Lee has also seen his antics land him in trouble with the law. He was convicted of assault last year when he slapped internet prankster Jack Jones in the face with a piece of pizza outside Canterbury West train station.
“That all means I have to be a bit more careful about the stuff I do now,” he admitted. “I’d like to do more of the Discoboy stuff because people seem to like that and we’ll just have to see what happens with the Monkey Move single.”
