A FILIPINO toilet cleaner has lost her case of racial and sexual discrimination against the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral.

Gilda Wanstall, 47, claimed that following a financial review, her job was the only one contracted out from more than 200 employees, and another male employee was found a better paid job as a security guard.

An employment tribunal at Ashford dismissed all Mrs Wanstall’s claims when it returned its findings on Monday.

At the hearing in September Mrs Wanstall’s husband Graham, of Rideway Road, Herne, had claimed Dean of Canterbury the Very Reverend Robert Willis had been un-Christian in his attitude by snubbing Mrs Wanstall instead of taking an interest in her problems.

The Dean and Chapter defended the claims, saying there was no evidence she had been treated less favourably than other employees.

Following the tribunal’s findings, Cathedral spokesman Chris Robinson said: “All the claims against the Dean and Chapter failed and we are very pleased - we always try to make sure there is no discrimination.”
