Canterbury Hockey Club suffered double disappointment in their Maxifuel Super Sixes campaign at the weekend with both the men's and women's teams failing to qualify for their respective semi-finals.

At Loughborough, the men's team lost three of their four games over the weekend to finish seventh in the final table, with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals.

Canterbury suffered a key blow in their opening game on Saturday when they lost 8-7 to Bowdon despite a five-goal haul from Ben Allberry.

Allberry, Liam Foster and Nat Joy were on target in their next game against East Grinstead but a hat-trick from GB international Ashley Jackson helped the Sussex side, who were the eventual group winners, to a 6-3 victory.

On Sunday, Canterbury opened up with a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Beeston, for whom Paddy Schmidt scored four times. Canterbury's goals came from Foster, Joy and Allberry.

Then, in their final game of the weekend, Kwan Browne's (pictured) side drew 6-6 with Surbiton with their goals coming Allberry (2), Dave Mathews (2), Michael Farrer and Joy. Allberry, who was guesting for Canterbury from Beckenham & Bromley, finished with a 15-goal haul from their eight group games.

EuroCanterbury missed out by just one point in the Women's Premier Division, finishing in fifth place at the University of West England in Bristol.

They won 3-2 against Slough in their opening game on Saturday thanks to goals from Mel Clewlow (2) and Lucy Barnes and were then held to a 3-3 draw by Clifton, with Lucy Hyams (2) and Grace Balsdon both on target.

But a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Bowdon Hightown, the eventual group winners, in their opening game on Sunday left EuroCanterbury with too much to do. Their goals came from Balsdon and Susannah Townsend, and Balsdon then bagged a hat-trick as EuroCanterbury defeated Trojans 6-3 in their fnal game, with their other goals coming from Clewlow, Eliza Brett and Nikki Triggs.
