POLICE have issued several fines to drivers who flouted traffic restrictions on a Kent residential estate in order to beat rush-hour queues.

On January 4, PC Macalpine-Downie and police community support officer Stephen Coulter carried out a traffic operation at the Brymore Estate, Canterbury, to prevent cars cutting through the estate during peaks times, when entry is restricted.

Residents have complained that cars are using the estate route to cut through from Sturry Road to Military Road during the restricted time period between 7.30am and 9.30am. The restrictions are clearly signposted at the entrance to Brymore Road.

PCSO Coulter says: “On the day of the operation, 42 cars turned into Brymore road during the restricted period and 12 received fines.

"Those vehicles that managed to slip through while we were dealing with stopped cars will be receiving a letter home, as we managed to take down their registration numbers.

"This is not a one-off operation and we will be back.”
