Daniel Cramphorn may be in his debut season in the prestigious P1 Powerboat World Championships but it’s been one to remember for the driver from Whitstable.
Racing in the all-British SuperSport Class Team SW1 Capital powerboat, Cramphorn and Brighton based co-pilot Kim Collins are rookies to the series in 2009 but secured two wins early on. However, at the last round in Italy, reliability issues cost the team vital points.
Cramphorn, previously a member of the British water-skiing team, said: "We are doing incredibly well for a new team. A lot of things have happened that shouldn’t have happened which now means it’s unlikely we can take the championship, but hopefully one day we will be rewarded. We came into the competition last year with two wildcard entries to see what it was about and it was great."
Cramphorn and his crew, including Grant Hills of Whitstable and Chris Clarkson of Sidcup will this weekend compete in the fourth round in Gothenburg, Sweden.
He said: "P1 is the pinnacle of Powerboat Racing and just being a part of it is amazing. The competition is exhilarating and it’s great to be in among all the glamour. Our aim is to win back-to-back world championships."
