Canterbury mobility scooter crash with lorry leaves elderly man seriously hurt

An elderly man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a lorry while riding a mobility scooter.

Police and paramedics were called to St George's Place in Canterbury at 9.20am after the rider was hit by the Mercedes truck at the entrance to the Waitrose car park.

The 92-year-old has been taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital for treatment.

His condition is described as serious but stable.

Police closed the road for several hours, sparking tailbacks in the city.

Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses.
