A sneak thief has stolen around £750 from an 84-year-old man after tricking his way into the pensioner's home.
The offender called at the flat in Forrester Close, Canterbury, claiming there was a water leak in the property which he needed to investigate.
He was let into the flat and the victim followed his instructions to empty a cupboard from under the kitchen sink.
While doing so, the man disappeared for a few minutes saying he needed to check for the leak upstairs. But he never returned and the pensioner later discovered around £750 cash had been stolen from two wallets.
Police have now released an e-fit image of the suspect following the theft which happened between 3pm and 3.30pm on Friday, July 17.
PC Pete Frampton said: "The offender is described as 25 to 30 years old, about 5ft 10ins tall and of a large build. He had olive skin and black, gelled hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket and appeared smartly dressed."
He also urged residents to be on their guard against cold callers.
He said: "Always check the identity of anyone knocking at your door. If you are not sure phone the company they are representing and confirm they are legitimate.
"Genuine callers won’t mind. If you are in any doubt ask them to come back at a time when you have a chance to have someone with you."
