New striker Charlotte Craddock and Susie Rowe both scored twice as EuroCanterbury Ladies gained their first Investec Women’s Hockey League win of the season by beating Bowdon Hightown 5-3 in Manchester on Saturday.
They trailed 1-0 after only 12 minutes before Craddock got her first from open play three minutes after half-time.
The home side went in front again after 50 minutes, but four goals in 12 minutes put Canterbury in the driving seat.
Rowe made it 3-1 with a penalty stroke, Craddock added a fourth from another open play effort, before new recruit Philipa Newton and Rowe, got two more in a minute. Bowden got their third 10 minutes from the end.
David Mathews celebrated his return to Canterbury colours with two goals in a 4-4 draw against long-time rivals Old Loughtonians in Men’s Conference East at Polo Farm on Saturday.
New signing Nathaniel Joy got the other two, with Oliver Didhams getting all four for Loughts, who are one of Canterbury’s rivals for the title.
Joy put them in front after a minute, but Didhams brought the Essex club level two minutes later, adding his second just before the half-hour.
Mathews, back from a spell with Kent rivals Holcombe, made it 2-2 at the break.
Joy and Mathews stretched Canterbury’s lead to 4-2, with 11 minutes left, only for Didhams to get two more and earn Loughts a point.
