An ex-British firefighter is to be extradited to a Portuguese prison for allegedly taking part in a riot at Euro 2004.

Despite the alleged offence taking place five years ago and denying he was even near the trouble, Garry Mann, of Beaumont Davy Close, Faversham, will be forced to serve two years in jail.

Mann, who is 51, was originally convicted in Portugal and was supposed to serve his sentence in the UK. However, it was confirmed in 2007 that he would not have to.

Then in March this year a European arrest warrant was issued and he was re-arrested.

He has seven days to appeal, and if he does not police will have to make sure he is sent back to Portugal.

The original cased rested on violence that erupted in the Algarve and involved police charging into groups of England fans outside the La Bamba bar in Albufeira.
