A SIX-week police campaign aimed at reducing disorder in the Canterbury district is underway.

Called Operation Displace, it involves extra officers being deployed between 6pm and 3am at weekends.

The aim is to improve the quality of life for residents while providing great reassurance to local communities.

The campaign is said to have a back to basics approach with pairs of officers on foot patrol, supported by special constables and members of the Public Safety Unit.

The officers are said to be additional to regular patrols and tactical response teams usually deployed to deter weekend disorder.

As part of the operation, licensing officers from both Kent police and the city council are paying unannounced checks to numerous pubs and clubs.

The campaign is set to run until March 26, but since it started there have been 89 visits to licensed premises, 13 intelligence reports, four stop and searches, four summons or warnings issued for public order and one arrest.
