Caterham Academy and MG Thoroughbred sports car races add spice to the regular fare on the eight-race programme for Saturday's South East Motor Sport Enthusiasts Club's race meeting at Lydden.
Entries for the MG Moss Thoroughbred Sports Car race range from the authentic Abingdon works MGB Roadster of Ron Gee from Wingham, near Canterbury, through to the similar car of long-time MG regular Roy McCarthy to the potent MGB GTV8 of Terry Holme.
Whitstable's Graham Wells makes his Lydden debut along with 17 other racing novices who will drive identical cars in the Caterham Academy Challenge.
Another driver from the same area, Canterbury decorator Robert Howe (Van Diemen RF96) will be looking for another win in the Astratech Single Seater Championship race.
The Intermediate Saloons & Sports race features four drivers from the Ashford area.
Former champion Craig Dawson (1.9 Peugot 205 GTI) or up-and-coming Warren Johnson (1.6 Peugot 205 GTI) could take outright victory, while Peter Wilkinson (Sierra-Cosworth) and Allan Rawlings (Mini) are potential class winners.
The Super Saloon & Sports event should see a superb battle between two Radical-Kawasaki drivers from Tunbridge Wells, Charles De Garston and Jim Greenfield, but Mike Roberts' more powerful Jade-Vauxhall will probably take the overall win.
There should be a tense tussle in the Credit Professionals Sports Car race between the two Westfields of Mark Burton and John Dewing and a trio of Caterhams driven by Gary Pickles, who won last time at Lydden, Lol Pilfold and Merrick Linnett.
Many of these drivers will also race in the South East Sports and Saloon Car Challenge as well as the John Taylor Handicap Championship event.
Lydden Circuit is on the A2, eight miles south of Canterbury. The meeting starts with a Jubilee Sprint event at 9am, followed by official practice at 1pm and the first of eight races at 3.15pm. Admission is £8 (£6 for senior citizens). Parking, paddock and entry for accompanied children is free.
