Police have urged residents to look-out for their elderly neighbours after a woman was scammed by a man flogging face masks.

The man selling the "highly-priced" items reportedly knocked on a woman's front door in Chartham on Thursday.

The woman agreed to buy some but was told her card was not being accepted by the handset.

But to her horror, she was later informed by her bank that four transactions had been made.

DS Marc Cananur said: "Criminals are sadly using many angles from this national crisis to try to defraud people.

"We advise residents to take a moment before agreeing to part with their money, to challenge anything they don't think is right and to contact their bank and police if they have fallen victim to a scam.

"Elderly people can be seen as easy targets and may not feel confident in challenging a suspected fraud, so we ask residents to keep their eyes and ears open against rogue traders, not just for themselves, but for their elderly relatives and neighbours too."
