The A2 has been shut in both directions after a power cable fell onto the road.
Police have closed the coast-bound carriageway between the A28 for Canterbury and M2 Junction 7 (Brenley Corner) for Faversham.
The road is also shut between Harbledown and Chartham Hatch London-bound.
Police say they were called to the A2 near Harbledown after a power cable fell onto the road at about 3.45pm today.
A spokesman for the force said: "Officers remain at the scene along with UK Power Networks and both carriageways are currently closed between Brenley Corner and the junction with the A28 at Thanington.
"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible."
It is also understood there has been a gas leak nearby.
National Highways posted on Twitter: "The #A2 is CLOSED in both directions between the #A28 (#Canterbury) and #M2 J7 (#Faversham) due to a @kent_police incident."
It comes as Storm Eunice batters Kent with gale-force winds knocking lorries over, toppling trees and damaging buildings.
One of Grain power station's three chimneys was even brought down by the powerful gusts.
A rare red 'danger to life' weather warning was in place across the county until 3pm, but more high winds are expected until at least 9pm.
It is the first time the Met Office has ever issued the highest wind warning for the county.
People have been advised to work from home and only travel "if absolutely necessary" due to the harsh weather.
Buildings have partially collapsed across the county, while Ashford's County Square shopping centre has had to close after glass panels were brought down, shattering on the ground.
