Faversham Town assistant manager Clive Walker believes player-coach Danny Hockton still has a big role to play on the pitch.

Hockton, 33, was promoted to coach this summer by boss Ray Turner.

The former Margate and Maidstone striker (pictured) showed his eye for goal by coming off the bench to score twice as the Lilywhites completed their pre-season programme with a 4-1 win against Hollands & Blair on Saturday.

And Walker said: "He’s joined the coaching set-up and has a good knowledge of the game but I think he’ll still play a bit.

"I can see him coming off the bench causing havoc like he did on Saturday. He came on, scored twice and could have had a hat-trick.

"He’s scored goals throughout his career and you never forget where the goal is."

Town don’t want to risk injuries ahead of the opening Ryman League, Division 1 South game of the season at home to Eastbourne Town on Saturday week, so they will stick to training this weekend.

Walker said: "We only have a squad of 18 players and a couple of them are away.

"We could have played a friendly but you don’t want to pick up a load of injuries a week before the season starts."
