Faversham boss Ray Turner is demanding improved defending after watching the Lilywhites concede five goals in their opening two Ryman League, Division 1 South games.

A 2-0 reverse at Ramsgate on Tuesday night, followed Saturday’s 3-3 home draw against Eastbourne Town and Turner said: "We made errors and handed the opposition all the goals."

He wants things to change, starting against Ringmer in the FA Cup preliminary round tie at Salters Lane on Saturday and knows the Sussex County League Division 1 side won’t be any pushovers after watching them win 4-2 at Kent League pacesetters Erith Town in the previous round.

The Faversham boss pointed to the absence of suspended left-back Jamie Maxted as a key reason for his side’s defensive frailties. Maxted missed both opening games because of suspension, held over from last season with Herne Bay.

Turner (pictured) said: "All three crosses against Eastbourne came from the left hand side. The balance of the back four has to be worked on and relationships in other areas still have to be built. Ramsgate’s first came from a long-range effort that we should have defended better and the second from an intercepted back pass."

He admitted: "I am still trying to clear my head a little (after the Ramsgate defeat). I was disappointed by the result, and to some extent the performance as well."

Player-coach Danny Hockton was expected to train on Thursday night after a back injury but won’t be ready for the weekend. Any replay at Ringmer will be played on Tuesday, but if the tie is decided, then Town will travel to Tooting on Bank Holiday Monday.
