Faversham Town manager Ray Turner has set his sights on getting over the line in the race for the play-off places this weekend after "the most incredible few days" he’s had in the job.
Turner’s side stunned title-chasing Maidstone 2-1 in front of more than 2,000 fans at the Gallagher Stadium and followed it up by coming from 2-0 down inside four minutes to win 4-2 at Crawley Down on Tuesday, ending their hosts’ chances of a play-off place.
Turner said: "It’s been an incredible week. We always knew we had a tough run-in.
"Nobody expected us to get much from the last two games, so to get six points is satisfying. To be where we are is beyond all our expectations.
"It’s quite possibly been the best few days I’ve had in the job and we are nearly there now. We just need to get ourselves over the line."
Victory over Merstham at the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Saturday would secure a top-five place but with Town boasting the best away record in Ryman League, Division 1 South this season, Turner admitted he wasn’t overly worried about securing home advantage by finishing third.
He said: "I am proud of the whole season but our away record, in particular. To be perfectly honest I’d probably rather we played away in the play-offs. Our home record has not been as good as we’d like."
He added: "Saturday is so important. If we could get it wrapped up this weekend, it would give us more time to plan for the play-off semi-final – the play-offs come so quick, just three days after the last game. It might give us a chance to rest a few on the final day at Leatherhead."
Wayne Wilson returns from a three-match ban on Saturday but Jamie Maxted begins a two-game suspension and James Peacock is rated 50/50 after a long-term knee problem.
