Ray Turner has hailed the ‘best footballing performance’ in the history of Faversham Town – although his only regret was that it didn’t come in a victory.
Turner’s Town side bossed unbeaten Ryman League, Division 1 South leaders Crawley Down Gatwick at the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Saturday but could not find the winner their performance warranted and drew 1-1.
Turner (pictured) said: "It is a strong statement to make but that was the best football witnessed at Faversham Town since the club re-formed in 2005.
"We kept the ball so well, we dictated play, created so many chances and hit the bar three times. The only disappointment for me is that we couldn’t take the chances to have won by three or four.
"We dominated a side who have been beating everyone. We made them look ordinary."
Turner added: "It’s taken a long time to come but we were outstanding and hopefully now it has clicked. The key thing is to try and maintain it."
Town welcome Leatherhead in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday and Turner said: "We have played against big teams like Margate and Dartford recently and held our own. We have nothing to fear against a side who are among the favourites to win our division."
"The way we are capable of playing, we’ll give anyone a match. Confidence is high."
