Faversham manager Ray Turner has signed centre-half Nick Davis from under the noses of Ryman League, Division 1 South rivals Sittingbourne.

Turner (pictured) moved for the experienced defender after Nick Humphrey joined Maidstone.

Davis, 30, was set to link up with his old Ramsgate boss Jim Ward before Faversham pounced. Turner said: "Jim was close to signing him, so I’m delighted he chose to join us.

"He played 40 games in the Kent League with Erith Town last season but before that, he’s played at a much higher level with Fisher and Ramsgate.

"He had injury problems at Tonbridge and took time out of the game but the fact he played a full season at Erith tells me he’s fit.

"He’s a direct replacement for Nick Humphrey and a potential captain for us. He could be a fantastic signing."

Meanwhile, striker Ricky Freeman has returned to the Shepherd Neame Stadium to try his luck at Ryman League level.

Turner, who has also retained the services of Justin Ascheri, said: "Ricky’s gone away and scored bundles of goals in Medway.

"He’s got pace and skill and if a player like that is confident and gets in the right areas, then he can score goals at any level."
