Fire at The Goods Shed in Canterbury

A fire broke out at a popular food destination and farmers' market.

Two fire engines arrived at The Goods Shed in Canterbury and have extinguished the blaze.

Plumes of acrid smoke could be seen rising out of the building and over nearby Canterbury West station.

A crowd of about 50 people gathered around the scene.

The blaze is believed to have stated in an electrical room of the one-storey building.

The smoke could be smelled as far as away as St Dunstan's.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Station Road West at about 8pm.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and spent time cutting away and damping down the building.

The site opened in 2002 as a daily farmers' market and has a restaurant which uses Kentish produce.
